University of North Carolina's Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography Harness Cloud to Run Hydrodynamic Models

The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at University of North Carolina was unable to run Hydrodynamic models based on Fortran due to computational limitations. We installed Fortran compilers and ran EC2 instances to make the Hydrodynamic models run faster with increased accuracy.

The Challenge

The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at University of North Carolina had been blocked from running Hydrodynamic models due to computational limitations. These models required high computational power and time to complete the processing of the input dataset.

Our Solution

The AWS-centered solution to meet PCI compliance included:

We installed and configured fortran compilers on high computer performance EC2 instances in order to run the models.
